Uncle Bill’s Legacy
Local Aboriginal Elder and leader, Uncle Bill Smith, was instrumental in establishing the Newcastle All Blacks, the National Aboriginal Rugby League Association and the Awabakal Newcastle Aboriginal Co-operative.
Uncle Bill was a proud man who loved a yarn and would often talk about culture, connection to country, family and community.
Uncle Bill’s youngest son Malcolm is the Chair of the Board of Yakuway.
