Yakuway means to take care.
Yakuway Indigenous Corporation will provide a culturally safe environment to support Indigenous community members to take their health and wellbeing into their own hands so they can live life well in a holistic way.
The key goal for Yakuway is to write a new chapter in the story of Indigenous people in our region.
There are currently no dedicated health and wellbeing facilities or services in the Westlakes area for the growing Indigenous population. This means that elders and community members need to travel to receive treatment or simply miss out.
Our intention is to open a wellbeing and community centre and over time expand to include essential health services with a holistic approach to health, wellbeing, mental health and community engagement, where traditional Indigenous healers, social workers and Indigenous health workers will partner with medical and allied health professionals to build life and wellbeing plans tailored to individuals and their families.
